The last post featured the up & coming 6th graders. This post features the 8th graders. It's fantastic how much they've learned in 3 yrs. Students have started learning how to make bubble & block letters. We begin by centering basic letters on the page, then stretch and pull the letters to create a more interesting design. For inspiration students look at graffiti samples from books, magazines & the Internet. For the final project, students will complete a "wildstyle" design using color pencils and/or watercolor. On Thurs. we took a tour of the Arts Programs at Snyder HS. Some of us visited the Media Arts Program which focuses on graphic design, video & music production, and some of us visited the Fine Arts Program. A number of MS #4 students have gotten into these elite programs, so we'll be working hard on portfolios for upcoming interviews. The Media Arts Program has a website below.
8th graders: Look under "Jersey City arts hs" page to see requirements and interview dates! http://web.me.com/media.arts.jcahsp/MediaArts |
I love art and can't imagine my life without it! I've been working with students in Jersey City for the past 13 yrs~ doing what I love. My students inspire me, and I hope I return the inspiration back. ~Ms. Marino Archives
