Urban means "from the city"

Outside Hudson Art Supply
Urban art is a style of art that relates to city life, often done by artists who live in or have a passion for the city. Another term for urban art is street art, or graffiti art.
The Urban Art Program is an alternative art education program being offered at Bright Street Academy, part of the Jersey City Public Schools. It is for students who want to develop drawing, painting and design skills related to urban/graffiti style art. Groups focus on graffiti/ street art and how it has become incorporated into everyday pop culture, as well as being a source of inspiration in helping students develop art skills and creative expression. Students learn the basics of drawing characters, backgrounds & lettering, and expand upon this to develop their own personal style. This type of art is bold, current & hip, and gives students an avenue to express their feelings & opinions in a way that appeals to them. Students also have the opportunity to work towards building up an art portfolio for high school, and learn about the business of art through marketing and selling their work.
Trips, activities and participation in groups are based on students being responsible for their behavior, attitude and grades. Character ed and group/individual discussions on a daily to weekly basis help students keep on a positive track. Ms. Marino's door is always open and all students are welcome.
